Belize, May 2003This is the public plaza in front of the main temple. While we were standing there, our guide pointed out some black howler monkeys hanging out in the trees, probably about 40 ft. above us. The ranger got them riled up by mimicing the sound they make, so probably three or four of the males started making all kinds of noise. Apparently, you can hear the monkeys for miles around. It was a truly wild experience. They were going at it for about 15-20 mins straight.
