Fisher (Fischer)The roots of the Fischer family began in Europe, in Germany. The mother and father of Robert, Emil, and William probably moved their family from Germany (or that region, possibly Bavaria) to the U.S., although we're not clear when. Therefore, we have presumed that these brothers were the first to grow up in this country. Another possibility is that the mother and father Fischer came across the ocean at some stage in the family's growth (i.e., when there were no children, when there was one, etc.). The family was Catholic. William Baldishire Fisher (born Fischer) fell in love and married Birdie Snell who was a Protestant and had been married once before (resulting in daughter Francis E. "Lover" Fisher Koob). The Catholic church did not approve of their marriage, so William dropped the "c" in his name and converted to the Protestant sect. William Rowley Fisher (son of William Baldishire Fisher) and Janice Fisher lived in Lakewood, OH, a suburb of Cleveland. William was born in Lakewood, went to Lakewood High School, then went on to graduate from University of Miami, Ohio. When he graduated from college (circa 1931), the US was in the beginning of the Depression and the only job he could get was at a Standard Oil of Ohio gas station. He started as an attendant and moved up the ranks into middle management. Janice was born on the west side of Cleveland. After marrying William, she was a housewife and took care of the family. They raised their sons in Lakewood, OH, which is still Janice's current residence. >>> View Jones | Snell & Koob | Ronald Fisher | Lawrence Fisher | James Fisher >>> View Schneider / Shackleton main | Ward | Fain | Shaffer >>> Click here to see the main Fisher tree again.
